AC Milan striker Santiago Giménez has insisted it is an honour to play alongside Fulham star Raúl Jiménez, quashing any concerns of a national rivalry.

Bolavip cover comments from the striker today in which he insists playing alongside Jiménez is a pride for him.

There was a big surprise for the Mexican national team this week as they took on Canada, with manager Javier Aguirre electing to start a front two of Giménez and Jiménez for the game.

That decision ended up paying off as they beat Canada to advance to the Nations League final and the Fulham star bagged a brace to make him the fourth highest goal scorer in the nation’s history and surpass the iconic Luis Hernández.

Talk before the game had been about what Aguirre was going to do about his striker situation as he has usually gone for a single striker and would have to choose between Giménez and Jiménez to lead the line.

There had been something of a developing rivalry between the two strikers, but the AC Milan man has insisted there is no such thing and it’s instead an honour to play alongside the Fulham star.

“Playing alongside Raúl is a source of pride because he’s in a good moment,” he said.

“We know the connection and understanding we have. The whole group played a great game, and that gives us a boost.

“Obviously, it’s different from what we’ve both been doing at clubs. We’re used to playing with just one striker, but in the end, it’s football, and we’re players. In any position, formation, or field, we’ll do our best because it’s football.”
