Lorenzo de Silvestri isn’t a name we’ve associated to the Premier League all that much over the past few years, but he’s always popped up in Italy here and there for intra-Serie A transfer rumours.

However, TuttoMercatoWeb on Wednesday give us something new on the Torino right-back’s future, claiming that a couple of clubs in England are interested in his services for next season, and those are, according to the Italian website, Newcastle United and Leicester City.

The Serie A side currently have no desire to part ways with their defender, who picked up five goals and four assists last season, and his current manager, Walter Mazzarri, would also like him to be a part of his project for the upcoming season.

It seems a bit strange to link Leicester City with a new right-back considering they just forked out around £18m to sign Ricardo Pereira from FC Porto, unless their plan is to bin Danny Simpson altogether and start completely anew in the role.

As for Newcastle, there isn’t exactly a need at the position, with Rafa Benitez seemingly happy to rotate between Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin, with left-back a far bigger priority.

There’s also no mention of how much De Silvestri would cost, but at 30 years of age and two seasons left on his deal, we can’t imagine it being all that much.

This is a bit of a strange one.
