It seems that not a week can go by without Manchester City being linked with a young footballer in France, whether it be Claudio Gomes, who they’ve already got their hooks in, or Rayan Aït Nouri, or someone else.
This week’s ‘someone else’ is Stefan Bajic, who very recently signed his first professional contract with AS Saint-Etienne.
The reason they did that was because the 15-year-old goalkeeper was being closely monitored by a number of big European sides, including Pep Guardiola’s current club.
Speaking to Homme du Match in France, Jérémie Janot, a former Saint-Etienne goalkeeper, revealed he was approached by various teams to find out a bit more about the young starlet.
He said: “Stefan, his potential is enormous. Unlimited. He’s the best goalkeeper of his generation. At 15, he’s already full of promise, very mature. He’s ahead of everyone. He has everything.
“Recently, I assisted to the Auxerre-ASSE U17s game. Many scouts from big clubs in Europe were there. There was one from Bayern Munich and one from Manchester City. They were there for Stefan. They came to speak to me, ask me what I thought of him. They knew who I was. They told me they’d come to see him more than once”.
Now secured to a professional contract, clubs will actually have to negotiate a fee with the Ligue 1 side if they were to try and sign the youngster for their club.
That means Manchester City would have to open the chequebook to get their hands on Bajic.
How much? That wasn’t discussed.
