Fulham striker Rui Fonte has given an interview to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo this Wednesday.

The former Braga player has mostly spoken about his former teammates, making big compliments to Paulinho, the club’s top goalscorer this season.

But there was obviously a little bit of room for Fonte to speak about his Championship adventure, which started last summer.  The player was sold from Braga to Fulham in a €9m deal last August.

Fonte had been a regular starter for the London side at first, but slowly lost his place in the team, and that’s what he’s talked about when interviewed by O Jogo.

The striker has five goals and five assists in 27 appearances this season, but his last goals were scored back in January.

“The club has top conditions and lived up to my expectations,” Fonte told O Jogo. “I started well, I played a lot of games, but I scored few goals. Lately I have not played so much, but the team have guaranteed good results and this is always the most important.”

Asked about the Portuguese players and managers who have been working in the Premier League, Fonte claims they are being welcomed in England.

“Carlos Carvalhal is the latest case, he managed to get Swansea out of a delicate situation. The Portuguese are highly praised here, not only for their quality but also for the professional and committed way they work.”
