Nabil Fékir to Liverpool was a brief thing shortly after Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona.

Alongside Thomas Lemar, the French forward was one of the many players linked with a move to Anfield to replace the Brazilian as the team’s creative fulcrum.

However, it appears that, according to the player himself, he never came close to moving to Liverpool.

Speaking to Onze Mondial, the Lyon star said: “Yeah, I heard. I heard, but there was never anything concrete.”

Giving an interview to the French magazine, the 24-year-old talked a fair bit about his future, especially since his former teammates Samuel Umtiti, Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso all got their big moves abroad.

Asked about where he could end up, he said: “We’ll see what the future holds. I’m at Lyon for now. I’m happy here. In football, you never know what can happen. It depends what the ball wants. You need to be prepared for anything.”

If you felt that was a bit of a telegraphed answer, Onze Mondial did too, which is why they said “That’s a bit of a bulls****er’s answer, isn’t it?”

He replied: “That’s because I don’t know. I can’t tell you what will happen tomorrow. Maybe I’ll be at Lyon my whole life. I don’t know. I’m under contract with Lyon until 2020. There. Calm.”

Valued by the CIES at around €60m, a price the likes of Liverpool could easily afford for a player of his quality, Fékir told Onze Mondial he’d heard about the valuation report, but was quite frank about it.

He said: “Look, I’m going to be frank. I don’t give a s***. Honestly, whether I’m worth €20m or €10m. Pffff.”

At least he doesn’t mince his words. And, on a bright note for Liverpool, he didn’t scoff at the idea of the move to Anfield.
