A few days ago Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that Leeds United had got tough over their interest in Tobias Figueiredo.
With Sporting wanting a permanent transfer and a fee of around €3-4m for the central defender, Leeds United had made it clear they wanted a loan and would walk away if that wasn’t available.
Now it sounds like Sporting are very much ready to accept a loan offer, but Figueiredo could be going to Rio Ave instead of Elland Road.
Sporting want to sign Marcelo, a Brazilian central defender, from Rio Ave, and need to compensate the club financially, with A Bola saying there’s also likely to be a loan included.
The most likely player to be used is Figueiredo, according to the Wednesday claims.
That presents good news and bad news for any Leeds United interest.
Sporting are clearly ready to accept a loan, and maybe even need to get the player off their books to bring in Marcelo, but Leeds will need to hurry if they don’t want to see him join Rio Ave instead.
