Italian website Calcio Mercato comes up with a story today saying that Fiorentina, Schalke 04, Watford and West Ham would be all interested in the Brazilian midfielder Matheus Jesus.
And it’s the Serie A side who would be in front in the race, as according to the report, they are already placing a €3.5m bid for the player.
However, the amount should be not enough to take him from Brazilian side Santos, where he is spending a loan spell from Portuguese club Estoril.
We’ll explain why.
The player was signed by Estoril in July, and immediately loaned out to Santos, where he has a contract until December 2018.
His last game for Ponte Preta had been in May, when he was playing the Campeonato Paulista, a regional tournament which doesn’t exactly have a high standard.
And it took a while for him to play again, as he’s only made two games for Santos so far, with only one start, which was in the 1-0 win against Palmeiras last Saturday.
So if Fiorentina really wanted him for his early years at Ponte Preta, they would have bid in the summer. Because Jesus didn’t have any time to impress since then, and as he’s currently on a long loan spell, things are set to be even more complicated to get him now.
And it should be the same for Watford and West Ham as well. It would all depend on the clauses in the contract between Estoril and Santos.
The 20-year-old may show a lot of potential as a box-to-box midfielder, but we bet we won’t see him in Europe so soon.
