Every day, there’s a feeling we edge closer and closer to Wesley Hoedt signing his deal with Southampton, and Monday could see a big step being taken to get that done.
According to Il Tempo in Italy, the Dutch centre-back will ‘probably’ travel to England today after saying goodbye (for the third time, it seems) to his teammates on Sunday.
The local newspaper explain that ‘bureaucratic questions’ slowed down the deal a little bit over the weekend, but they shouldn’t be a huge problem overall.
The price remains the same, which is that Southampton will likely end up paying Lazio €17m, or at least the €15m up front, with €2m in bonuses.
First thought to be a replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, it seems, judging by Ralph Krueger’s words, Hoedt could actually end up playing alongside his compatriot if the Liverpool target does end up staying at St Mary’s.
Pellegrino seems keen to work with the former Celtic star despite his ‘behaviour’ this summer, and pairing him up with Hoedt might just keep the 26-year-old happy for at least another season.
