Days after stating they wouldn’t go any higher than the €35m already offered to Leicester, a report from France has appeared claiming Roma have submitted an improved bid for Riyad Mahrez.
Earlier this week, multiple articles in Italy were published across the national and local press stating the deadline for the Foxes to give an answer to Monchi about the Algeria international was Tuesday, but we didn’t really believe that.
Deadlines had been set and broken previously, and we suspected if an opening were presented, Roma would maybe, just maybe, up their offer just a bit to see if Leicester would bite.
Well, France Football claim on Wednesday that Roma have forwarded a €38m bid to the Premier League side for their star, going against everything reported in Italy.
The problem here is that if Leicester refuse to budge from their asking price, increasing the offer by €3m or so isn’t going to make much of a difference, as the bid still falls short of £40m.
Maybe it’s just a ‘we’ll put this here for you to accept when you’re ready to’ bid.
Either way, we’ll wait to see what the Italian press have to say about this tomorrow.
We’re not saying we don’t believe France Football, but if the Italians confirm this news, then there’s more to go on.
