Riyad Mahrez continues to be courted by AS Roma, but the transfer isn’t going anywhere quickly.
Quite simply, Roma brought Monchi in to get them good players at below market value, and that requires the selling club to play the game.
Leicester City have so far shown no intention of giving in to Roma, and don’t want to provide Monchi with another transfer victory.
Roma will, and maybe already have, use every trick in the book to get a deal in their favour, just like Sevilla have done for years, but the simple answer is to say no to anything that isn’t a big enough flat fee.
Mahrez himself hasn’t pushed too much for a move to Roma, with a preference for the Premier League, and perhaps some other clubs.
Catalan newspaper Sport report Mahrez has been offered to Barcelona, with the insinuation the offering would be from the player’s entourage, and the club have politely turned the approach down.
The idea of the offer, made in the ‘past few hours’ was that Mahrez could replace Neymar. Sport say the Leicester City player ‘doesn’t come into Barca’s plans’.
There’s no harm in trying.
