The Premier League has returned, and the ESPN Brasil correspondents are back to work. After the many good interviews made last season, they’ve already kicked off by chatting to Manchester City’s Ederson.

Signed from Portuguese side Benfica in a €40m deal, the goalkeeper is expected to make his Premier League debut today, as Manchester City travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion.

ESPN’s first question was obviously about his price, as they call him ‘the most expensive goalkeeper ever’. But Ederson, who has humble roots, doesn’t really care about it.

“Many people ask me what I think. I’m a calm boy. This does not influence me at all. For others it may influence, but I am chilled about it.”

The Portuguese press always said Pep Guardiola wanted him because of his ability to pass with his feet, something already confirmed by the goalkeeper. And he thinks the Premier League will be a good place to prove his skills.

“I had this with me. Here it’s easier to play with the feet, although it is a greater risk. Here when I get the ball, I always have options of passes, so it gets easier.”

Finally, Ederson was questioned about the criticism he received from the English media after the mistake he made against Manchester United during a preseason friendly, which resulted in a goal scored by Romelu Lukaku.

“I do not understand English, so it’s indifferent to me. I also don’t try to follow these things a lot, they are journalists, they talk what they want, they talk what they think. So it’s indifferent to me. It enters in one ear, goes out through the other. So it does not change anything for me.”

Manchester City will hope Ederson continues with that stance, because, just like with David De Gea when he moved to England, any mistake will be pounced upon to ‘prove’ this young goalkeeper isn’t really all he’s cracked up to be.
