Everton ‘tried their luck’ to sign Adil Rami from Sevilla, reports Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe, but they failed.
Rami has instead signed for French club Marseille, and L’Equipe say he also turned down Crystal Palace.
The Goodison Park club are being dragged into transfer stories all around Europe this summer, with their free-spending seeing them linked to any half chances, and agents obviously spotting an opportunity on Merseyside.
However, it’s hard to find concrete links between Rami and Everton, and it’s even harder to believe Ronald Koeman had a serious interest in the player.
Surplus to requirements at Sevilla, Marseille were partly attracted by Rami’s status as a recent French international, and it’s unlikely Everton will have seen him as a player to help carry them forward.
True or not, L’Equipe are determined to hand out a loss to Everton on this one, making Marseille’s victory perhaps seem a little more impressive than it is.
