It’s pretty impressive what can be made from a screenshot of a headline and a byline, which are almost always far more dramatic than the content of the article itself.
On Friday, Italian journalist Giovanni Capuano posted a screenshot of a Gazzetta dello Sport article covering an apparent Inter interest in Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, which sent a few outlets into overdrive.
Admittedly, the headline does include words like ‘wonderful dream’ and ‘Inter mission’, and it’s fairly easy to see why everyone got carried away.
However, looking at the piece’s content, it’s mostly filled with a bunch of hypotheticals that have been used time and time again by the Italian press when discussing a potential return to Serie A for the Chile international.
Spending a good chunk of their column inches explaining what type of player the Arsenal star is and his contract situation, Gazzetta finally broach the subject of a transfer by saying: “For now, things are in the realm of ideas and enquiries, but 
a simple ‘breakthrough’ would suffice to trigger Inter’s transfer men.”
So, no moves have really been made yet, with the Serie A side basically dreamily staring at Alexis Sanchez through a window, occasionally knocking on it to see if they can catch his attention.
If, and it’s a big one, something did happen between Inter and the Chilean forward, then their plan would be to make him their ‘poster boy’ in all marketing ventures.
It’s a good idea/wonderful dream/plan, don’t get us wrong, but will it actually happen? We find it hard to believe.
