Dutch football pundit René van der Gijp believes it’s right Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United.

Yesterday it was announced the Old Trafford legend will not be part of Rúben Amorim’s coaching staff despite the success he’s had in recent weeks as Manchester United’s caretaker boss.

Soccernews.nl have covered comments Van der Gijp has made to Vandaag Inside when asked about the situation with Van Nistelrooy. The former PSV attacker said it’s a good thing his compatriot has left the Premier League side as he needs to be his own man.

Van der Gijp thinks this will give the former Netherlands international the chance to return as a manger rather than being an assistant to Amorim, and he sounded quite bitter about the whole thing.

“He shouldn’t become the errand boy of some Portuguese. You can’t interfere with that. You can’t get a grip on that. Now he’s going away a hero. Now he could come back as head coach,” said the Dutch pundit.

Fellow Dutch commentator Johan Derksen has also had his say on the situation, and he believes Van Nistelrooy should have been given more of a chance as the Manchester United manager.

“It was done a bit hastily. Ruud has an aura there, it’s unbelievable,” said Derksen.

Following the departure of Erik ten Hag, Van Nistelrooy managed to steady the ship as the interim manager.

In his four games in charge, the Dutchman picked up seven Premier League points from a possible nine and the Red Devils also recorded their first victory in Europe this season with the win over PAOK.
