Liverpool manager Arne Slot has admitted he is pleased by players praising him in the media, but more so when they’re praising his coaches.
The Liverpool boss has been speaking to Viaplay in the Netherlands, when he was asked what it tells him about the consistent praise from his current crop of players.
It’s been a flying start to life at Liverpool for the Dutch coach, who arrived in the summer to replace Jurgen Klopp after he elected to step away.
The Reds currently sit top of the table after seven wins in eight games so far, with their only defeat the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
It’s been a smooth transition for Slot, who rather than ripping up what Klopp left behind has tweaked what was left and moulded it to his own style.
Slot has noticed that, but insists he is more pleased when he sees the same players praising the team around him.
“Yes, that’s nice, because that’s what you do it for. You want to have good results, you want to make players better,” he said when asked about the praise.
“It’s nice when you work with players, so you feel that they appreciate what not only I do, but also my staff does.
“That is sometimes underexposed, no matter how important my staff is to me, but also to those players. And fortunately, I sometimes hear them talk about the staff and not just about the head coach.
“It’s also very nice. I always think that it should be tested especially at the moment that things are not going so well.
“Or they still say, we are completely low here for what we do, and we think it’s all great.”
