Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson could miss out for Sweden when Janne Andersson reveals his team on Friday. Sweden are set to meet France in their crucial World Cup qualifier.
Fotbollskanalen have speculated on Andersson’s starting eleven for the game against France, and it’s looking likely Jansson will be replaced by Benfica star Victor Lindelof. The Manchester United target sat out Sweden’s last World Cup Qualifier against Belarus due to injury, which gave Jansson a rare start in a competitive international.
The Leeds United star didn’t put a foot wrong during Sweden’s 3-0 victory, but Lindelof is still expected to partner Andreas Granqvist on Friday night. Since Andersson was installed last September he’s tended to go with the central defensive partnership of Granqvist and Lindelof, despite Jansson’s form for Leeds United last season.
This will come as a blow to the Leeds United player after working on his fitness in the past couple of weeks in preparation for the France game.
Jansson gave up the beginning of his holidays to train with former club Malmo, after Leeds United’s season ended earlier than he’d hoped. The whole point of the extra effort was to get himself ready for Sweden, so to not be involved would be a blow.
