Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno has admitted he is loving life on loan at Feyenoord after finally getting underway at the Dutch club.

Feyenoord Pings cover comments from the Wolves loanee today, while FR12 cover positive media coverage of the player.

Bueno is spending the season on loan with Feyenoord after falling down the pecking order under Gary O’Neil at Molineux last season.

He’s been with Wolves since a move from Areosa in July 2019 and has made 49 appearances for the club in total since then, with 43 of those coming in the Premier League.

He managed 26 appearances last season but only 836 minutes across all competitions and so has headed out on loan to Feyenoord in search of regular playing time this season.

That’s been somewhat curtailed by a muscle injury ruling him out in recent weeks but an assists in the 5-1 win over PEC Zwolle in August hinted at a potential positive season ahead.

He returned with a 33-minute appearance in the 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen this past weekend and was full of enthusiasm, particularly with the new attacking role he’s been given.

“When I was young, I played as a left winger, sometimes even a right winger,” he said.

“But now I would opt for left back. That doesn’t mean I don’t like to attack, so I would say an attacking left back. I really enjoy this position.

“Hopefully there will be more opportunities. I really enjoy moving forward. Before the match I knew that the first ball I would get from outside the box, I would try something that was going to be important. I also said it to Igor (Paixão) ‘if you see me 1-on-1, go into the box and I will put him there.’ Igor was happy with it, because he scored immediately. That was very nice.”

His performance earned him plenty of praise in the media, particularly from journalist Martijn Krabbendam, who insisted it was clear the Wolves man was at a different level to the competition in the position.

“You can already see the difference when Bueno comes in and Smal goes out,” he said.

“That’s a different level, because that boy comes from the Premier League. Stuck on the ball, coming up at the right time and making some dangerous crosses.

“That is quality, and Smal comes from Twente and may still have to get used to everything at Feyenoord, but that is a big difference.”
