Rodri was forced off the pitch after 21 minutes in Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the weekend.
The 28-year-old has suffered a knee injury and is expected to spend a long spell on the sidelines.
On Monday, the Manchester City star arrived in Barcelona to undergo more tests to find out the extent of the damage.
The midfielder’s setback has set off alarm bells at Real Sociedad. That’s at least what Mundo Deportivo are indicating.
The Spain international missed the start of the season due to an injury he suffered in the Euro 2024 final against England in July. La Real’s Martín Zubimendi replaced him in the second half.
Mundo say everything indicates the 25-year-old will be the first-choice to replace Rodri in the upcoming international breaks. This could be a ‘problem’ for the La Liga side because Zubimendi will end up playing more minutes than expected.
Zubimendi has played 585 minutes this season. There’ll be more load and stress on him while with the national team, and this in return may impact his performances for club. Real Sociedad are worried Rodri’s absence ‘could directly affect’ their midfielder.
Maybe they should also be worried about emerging rumours of Manchester City interest in Zubimendi.
