Waldemar Kita, the current owned, is described as the man behind this, with him becoming tired of the club and a member of his entourage contacting those representing the Liverpool player.
Kita is said to have held a video conference with the English group, and then met their legal representative. That saw a verbal offer proposed worth €80m upfront, €20m later, and a potential further €40m in bonuses.
Another meeting was held on Thursday, at which Kita accepted an external audit of the club, but did not accept the sums on offer.
L’Equipe then say Kita is now denying this.
The French newspaper go on to say the FC Nantes owner is ‘furious’ about this all being leaked to the media, and has called the whole thing to a close.
Whether it can be saved is unknown.
