Sporting are now ‘in possession of a first official proposal’ for Ruben Semedo, according to Sunday’s edition of Portuguese newspaper Record.
It’s probably a 50/50 as to whether the first official proposal is from Newcastle, but even if it is… it’s not enough. Record reiterate that Sporting want €20m, and say of the first offer ‘the value falls below the level mentioned’.
It’s unlikely Lille would stretch to €20m for 23 year old Semedo, and it would be a figure 
easier for Newcastle to live with. But, given that Sporting were the ones to first push Semedo to the market, it’s no surprise a club has gone in below the asking price.
To counter originally seeming too keen, Sporting are now telling their local media there’s a possibility of Semedo staying and being rewarded with a new contract.
