Over the weekend, we relayed a quote from Nantes president Waldemar Kita who revealed he was still very interested in bringing back Jordan Veretout to his former club.
Last season, the Aston Villa midfielder decided to return to France in order to avoid playing in the Championship, where he had a good season with Saint-Etienne.
With the campaign now over, the player is expected to return to Villa Park for next year, unless someone else comes in and takes him away again, either temporarily or permanently.
That team could very well be Nantes, as, the day after Kita’s claims, L’Equipe explain Nantes ‘dream’ of a Veretout return, with the president prepared to ‘invest’ this summer in order to please his manager.
Sergio Conceicao’s great time at the helm of Nantes has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs, and it appears Kita is determined to show him how ambitious he and the club are in order to keep his man.
Part of that plan appears to be handing him the Aston Villa midfielder’s services for next season, and it seems that, with Saint-Etienne prioritising finding a new manager for now over rebuilding their squad, Nantes are now the favourites to do so.
