Back in 2015, when Iker Casillas left Real Madrid, he signed a two-year contract with Porto, which included the option of adding a further one.

The two years are gone now, and with the extending option never made official, newspapers seem to be a bit lost regarding what will be of the goalkeeper’s future.

Spanish outlet AS has a story today saying Casillas is very unlikely to return to Porto after his vacations, and there are strong possibilities he will sign for Liverpool. AS say the Anfield offer ‘appeals to player most’.

It’s claimed the player is at the end of his contract with the Portuguese side and ‘some sources’ even claimed he has signed a pre-agreement with Liverpool.

There would also be offers from China, Qatar and Turkey, but Liverpool are the only who can offer him the chance to play in the Champions League.

However, the word in Portugal is totally different. Northern newspaper O Jogo claims Casillas will be returning to Porto next season, as Record has even managed to speak to his agent.

Carlo Ultropia has told the newspaper: “There’s nothing to comment on. Iker has a contract with Porto for the 2017/18 season.”

The Portuguese media claims that the player agreed to stay for one more season a long time ago, but things were not made official. That’s what all the confusion is all about, and it will continue, because he won’t sign the new deal until returning from his vacations in July.

Record claims that there are MLS clubs interested, but Liverpool are not mentioned either by them or O Jogo.

Casillas has repeated been linked to Liverpool and perhaps it’s a transfer window tradition that Jurgen Klopp will have to get used to.
