Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi may be about to land on his feet. Moving to Villa in 2015 from Nice, it was considered a coup for the Birmingham club at the time. Amavi was even an outside chance for Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2016 squad, given the form and fitness of others.
Aston Villa were relegated to the Championship, and Amavi stayed with the club, always expressing his loyalty during interviews with the French media.
Now looks the time to leave, and L’Equipe report Atletico Madrid could be Amavi’s destination. Resigned to losing Theo Hernandez, on loan at Alaves, this summer, Atletico want a young back-up to 31 year old Filipe Luis who can eventually take over from the Brazilian.
That’s where 23 year old Amavi comes in. The French newspaper say there’s ‘continuous contact’ 
between Amavi’s entourage and Atletico, with the opening conversations having already taken place.
L’Equipe say that despite Aston Villa playing tough in the winter transfer window, they’re now willing to see Amavi leave. A potential price is put at just €10-12m.
There’s thought to also be interest in England, and Napoli are keeping an eye on the situation.
