Brentford won’t be able to sign Johan Bakayoko from PSV Eindhoven, as he’s simply set his sights higher than that.
That’s according to journalist Freek Jansen, who says the forward wants to be competing in the Champions League, or at least competing to qualify for it.
Bakayoko has a long list of admirers this summer after an impressive season with PSV last year that saw him as one of the main protagonists as they won the Eredivisie title.
He built on his growing reputations with several impressive performances for Belgium at Euro 2024 too but so far, no clubs have made a move for him in this window.
Brentford have continued to be linked ever since that effort, but Janse says it will never happen, as Bakayoko simply has his sights set much higher than what Thomas Frank and his team can offer him at this moment in time.
“Bakayoko is very outspoken. He wants to take that step, but he said: I will only go to a club that plays in the Champions League and can participate in the battle to win the Champions League,” PSV Fans report him saying to ESPN.
“Brentford was interested, but for Bakayoko a Brentford is really out of the question. You notice at PSV that the players feel that they are doing well.
“They are enthusiastic under Peter Bosz. They only really want to leave when a top club comes along. They are doing well together at PSV.”
