Sevilla coach Xavi García Pimienta has hinted that it is fitness issues stopping him using Kelechi Iheanacho, despite the club insisting there’s nothing wrong with the former Leicester City man.
Mucho Deporte cover comments from the Sevilla boss today as questions continue to be asked about Iheanacho’s absence.
The striker joined the Spanish club on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Leicester but has barely featured so far this season.
A report this week looked to find out what was going on, speaking to the club directly and asking them if Iheanacho was injured, unfit or if there was another reason for his absence.
Sevilla responded by insisting categorically that the striker was not unfit or injured but simply being introduced slowly given the big life change of moving countries.
They seemed to want to let him adapt slowly rather than throwing him in the deep end but were keen to insist there was no issue and all was going to plan with the former Leicester man.
It seems Pimienta may not have gotten the memo, though, as he’s now insinuated that it is a lack of fitness which is the issue.
“We have high hopes for him,” he said.
“He is a top-class player. He has it and he has to wait for his moment. And when he has it, take advantage of it.
“He has talent and quality. After not doing pre-season… There is no doubt. The team needs him. He will give his best.”
