Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered lots of stories from Portugal saying William Carvalho should be leaving Sporting at the end of the season, with West Brom the most linked club, and Newcastle United added recently.
Sporting usually sell some of their stars to keep a good financial balance and this summer won’t be any different. But O Jogo is coming up with some interesting claims today, saying the player himself has asked to leave in the transfer window.
It’s actually three players keen to leave, and all of them are club captains. Adrien Silva and Rui Patrício have made the same request, especially because after winning Euro 2016, they think they can achieve more.
But Sporting don’t want to sell Adrien, which makes William’s and Patrício’s departure much more likely. That sounds like good news for Rafael Benitez and Tony Pulis.
O Jogo makes it clear that there’s no tension between the parties, and players will only leave if a reasonable offer arrives.
The newspaper also claims that Newcastle and West Brom have already registered their interest in Carvalho, something that has been reported for a while now.
It’s worth remembering that the midfielder has a €45m release clause, and offering less than €35m, just like West Brom did last summer, could be a waste of time.
