Wolverhampton Wanderers could be handed a free transfer opportunity by Boulaye Dia, who is hoping to be released from his contract at Salernitana.

That’s according to Salernitana News, who say he is currently turning down other proposals as he waits for the outcome of an arbitration after a falling out with the Italian club.

They explain that the end of the Serie A season, which saw Salernitana relegated to Serie B, has not ended the ‘tug-of-war’ between the player and the club.

They’re currently in dispute and have been for some time, with a case being overseen by an Arbitration Panel after Salernitana sued him for refusing to play against Udinese.

The two parties are awaiting the outcome of that and in the meantime new problems are arising in terms of a transfer after the club’s ‘original sin’ of not accepting Wolves’ bid for him last summer.

It was that which sparked a series of fallings out between the forward and Salernitana and they could now fall out further after receiving a bid from Lazio.

The Italian side have accepted a proposal from their compatriots, who are willing to shell out €10m for Dia, but he has different plans for his future.

He hopes to be officially released from his contract after the Arbitration Panel have reached their conclusion and then reach an agreement with a Premier League club as a free agent, thus depriving Salernitana of any fee too.

Now, to be clear there is no mention of Wolves being that club, but they would surely not look badly on the option given their efforts to get the forward last year.

Dia was certainly keen on the move at that point, and he’s managing matters to try and make himself available this summer too, postponing signing any agreement elsewhere as he hopes to be free this summer and decide his own future.
