One of the multitude of players to leave Leeds United following their relegation to the Championship was Robin Koch.

The defender moved to Eintracht Frankfurt on what was technically a loan deal. However, given his contract at Elland Road expires at the end of June there was always the near certainty he’d stay at the Bundesliga club beyond this summer.

For Eintracht it’s been a brilliant deal, allowing them to take the defender initially on loan and then agree a deal with him to arrive as a free agent.

For Koch himself it’s worked out quite well, and he’s now in Germany’s squad for the upcoming Euros. That was the defender’s aim when he left Leeds United, and he didn’t make any secret of it.

Had he stayed with the Whites and played in the Championship this season then it would have bee very difficult for him to secure a place in the squad for the home tournament.

Bild say ‘He’s going to the Euros’, and for Koch and Eintracht it’s all gone well, although there may be a little annoyance at Leeds United that they’e missed out on what could have been a big fee.
