Belgian side Gent are hoping that Manchester United spend €60m+ on Lille’s Jonathan David this summer, so they can cash in themselves.

That’s according to Voetbalkrant, who cover the player today and how his former club could be set to profit handsomely if he gets a big money move in the summer.

They explain that Gent’s bank account has been filled in recent weeks, with the sales of Gift Orban, Hugo Cuypers and others helping to bring in millions.

There are still more million ‘in the pipeline’ that they won’t need to make much effort for either, with them set to profit from training rights and sell-on clauses from previous deals.

Jonathan David is one of them. According to them it is ‘written in the stars’ that he will secure a big transfer this summer and that would be profitable for Gent.

Reports in England have linked Manchester United with a move, even claiming that they have contacted Lille about a potential transfer and want to open talks on that front. Lille would like that to happen and so would Gent.

The French side’s plan is to secure at least €60m for the forward, a figure Manchester United could easily pay, although he is currently valued at around €50m.

Either way, Gent are ‘rubbing their hands’ at the prospect of a big sale. They’re already guaranteed €5m from any sale but they also negotiated an extra percentage when it comes to a re-sale. That is usually a percentage of any profit, but Voetbalkrant don’t make it certain on this occasion.

It all rests on Manchester United, or any other interested parties for that matter, making a bid for him, but Gent will be watching with interest.
