Even though the Portuguese and the Spanish media sound very confident that Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes will switch Benfica for Villarreal this summer, that operation is still to be concluded.
There had been certainty that the deal would be sorted this week, and that apparently didn’t happen. Now El Periodico Meditarraneo comes up with a story explaining the situation.
The outlet insists that, ‘barring unforeseen circumstances’, Guedes will join Villarreal, as the Yellow Submarine already have an agreement with Wolves and the player.
It’s said it’s Benfica who need to ‘unblock the operation’.
The report claims that the club’s management would have no problem letting him go, but with Eagles manager Roger Schmidt claiming the striker is ‘very important’, that created a weird scenario, especially because he hasn’t even been playing there.
According to El Periodico Meditarranea, Guedes is ‘forcing his way out’ of Benfica, and everything still indicates that he’ll arrive at Villarreal next week.
Wolves are set to loan him out to the La Liga side until the end of the season.
