Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui has made his feelings clear to those in charge at the club as concern grows he could be about to depart.

This is according to AS, who say Wolves are on ‘red alert’ in regard to the manager’s future at Molineux as he has been forced to ‘rethink’ his situation.

The newspaper explains that Lopetegui’s future at the club is currently ‘up in the air’ after he voiced his displeasure at the change in direction at the club this summer.

He’s been left concerned by the ‘constant sales’ of key players from his squad and the lack of signings to replace them, something which has ‘entangled the relationship’ between both parties.

Lopetegui has made attempts to reverse the situation but the poor economic outlook at the club has made signings, which the Spanish coach considers essential, very difficult.

The former Sevilla coach was made aware of the financial issues at the club the day after sealing their survival last season. Since that point, several stars have departed without being replaced.

While that has helped balance the books, Wolves’ squad is now threadbare and they’re in serious threat of being relegated as a result. ‘Lopetegui knows this’ say AS and has voiced his displeasure to those above him too.

That has not led to any movement to resolve the problem, though, and instead there is a ‘prevailing immobility’ that has made him ‘seriously reconsider his continuity’ at the club.

The new few hours will be crucial to whether he remains or departs, with the Spanish coach currently viewing Wolves’ project as a ‘trap’ that he does not want to fall victim to.

Now this article was written by journalist Aritz Gabilondo, who, after publication, also took to Twitter to ram home the point.

“Lopetegui’s future at Wolves looks grey,” he wrote.

“Difficult for the Premier to start. The lack of signings and the sale of stars has dynamited the project, ravaged by Fair Play. Very hard.”

The message in Spain then, echoes that being shared in England, that Lopetegui appears to be on the brink of leaving Wolves after major disagreements with those above him.
