“He has to work on his physicality” – Leeds United player told he needs to improve whilst on loan

Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson has been told he needs to work on his physicality while on loan with Union Berlin this season.

That’s according to Union’s Managing Director of Sport, Oliver Ruhnert, who has been speaking to Kicker regarding the American and his move to the Bundesliga club.

Aaronson has joined Union on loan this season, one of the numerous players to have departed Elland Road on loan following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

His solitary year in England proved to be a difficult one for him following a move from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, with him managing just one goal and three assists in 40 appearances.

The American youngster appeared at times to struggle with the pace, power and physicality of the Premier League, which is undoubtedly a huge step up from what he had been accustomed to in Austria and the USA.

He’ll now be hoping to get back on track during his loan spell in Germany, but Ruhnert has warned the Leeds man he needs to work on one particular area if he is to do so.

“He still has to work on his physicality,” he is quoted as saying when discussing the player and possibly problems with the ‘intensity’ in the Bundesliga.

Whether Aaronson can focus on that and get back to his best remains to be seen. It’s fair to say before his move to Leeds he was highly rated and his short time at Elland Road dampened that somewhat.

The Bundesliga has proven to be a good breeding ground for talents like him over the years, but it seems even those in charge at Union are aware he’ll need to work on his game if this loan spell is to be a success.
