“Expensive business” – Club cannot afford Wolves forward, headache for Julen Lopetegui

PSV Eindhoven cannot afford a permanent deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva this summer, meaning he will be returning to Molineux.

That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who says there is no prospect of the Portuguese youngster returning to the Dutch club on loan.

Silva has spent the second half of this season on loan with PSV and cutting short a similar loan with Anderlecht to make the move to the Eredivisie.

He had proven to be a solid signing for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side and there has been plenty of talk about them potentially keeping him for a second season.

That, though, has been ruled out by Wolves, who have proven resistant to PSV’s efforts to try and discuss another loan move and priced the Dutch side out of a permanent transfer as well.

Thus, Silva is set to return to Molineux this summer, where Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui will have to decide whether he wants him as part of his squad moving forward or to move him on.

If it is the latter, it appears PSV won’t be in the race for his signature, with Elfrink explaining that the striker is simply too expensive for them.

“This season with Silva has shown that you need a good second striker,” he said on the AD Voetbalpodcast.

“That Ajax inquired is seen as a game by the agents. That he is on the radar there I don’t think is so crazy.

“He wouldn’t be out of place at Ajax over there, as would he be at PSV behind Luuk de Jong. Renting him again (for PSV) will not work, that is an expensive business. And buying him is definitely not in the cards.”
