Still at Manchester United despite a lot of criticism from fans ever since he signed for the club under David Moyes, Marouane Fellaini doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Booed at Old Trafford more than once, the player spoke to Eleven Sports in Belgium, relayed by DH, about the phone call he received from the Portuguese manager last May that meant he was never going to leave the club in a 2016 summer deal.
He said: “In May, he called me to tell me he had faith in me. From the start, he helped me gain confidence. I’ve always had a great relationship with him. After my goal against Hull, I ran towards him to thank him because he protected me in tough times.”
Whether that trust goes beyond this season remains to be seen, although, barring a frustrating cameo against Everton back in December where he gave away a penalty late in the game, the Belgian has done very little wrong when called upon.
Were they to move him on in the summer, Manchester United will be hard pressed to recoup most of the £27.5m they paid for him back in 2013.
