In need of a backup goalkeeper as an emergency for the first half of the season, Newcastle United looked around and settled on Loris Karius.

The former Liverpool player was a free agent at the time, eventually signing a contract until the end of December, at which point the Magpies can choose whether or not to extend it until the end of the campaign.

It’s not been said yet whether Newcastle will do that or not, but Karius’ name was quick to appear as an option for Bayern Munich following the news that Manuel Neuer was out for the season.

The logical option was to recall Alexander Nübel from his loan at AS Monaco, and that’s exactly what they are going to do, with Bild now dismissing entirely the idea that the Newcastle goalkeeper will return to Germany with the Bundesliga giants.

They state that while there is a chance Karius could be free from January onwards, it’s made clear the Premier League goalkeeper ‘is not an issue’ for the Germans.

Therefore, if Newcastle do decide to keep the 29-year-old beyond December, they don’t have to worry about Bayern coming knocking for him.
