After reports of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Alessandro Bastoni surfaced, Manchester United were thrown into the mix as another candidate for the Inter Milan star.
The defender continues to be named as one of the defensive targets for the north London club this summer.
Over the last 24 hours, various reports in Italy have stated that Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Ivan Perišić on a free transfer.
TuttoMercatoWeb have carried the report and towards the end, they also discuss Spurs’ interest in Bastoni.
It’s said Tottenham Hotspur could swoop in for the Italy international ‘any time’. His sale to the north London club would allow the Nerazzurri’s ‘coffers breathe’, allowing them to ‘make a capital gain’ and also to reinvest to shape up their squad for next season.
Italian journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, writing in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb, also discuss Antonio Contes side wanting the 23-year-old this summer. He claims the Serie A side must raise around €60m to improve their economic conditions.
Bastoni, Milan Škriniar, Nicolò Barella and Lautaro Martínez are the four players who have a good rating in the market and one of their sales will help the club raise money. Inter would like to retain all of them but will be forced to sit at the negotiating table, if they receive a ‘huge offer’.
Ceccarini claims that ‘in the last few hours’, there have been movements from the Premier League for Bastoni. He mentions Tottenham Hotspur as they are ‘strong on him’.
Conte knows the player as he trained him for two seasons at the San Siro. The coach ‘would be happy’ to reinforce his side’s defence with his compatriot.
For Spurs, the ‘problem remains’, regarding the fee demanded by Inter. The journalist states Inter value him at around €60-70m.
