Leicester City’s interest in Sassuolo’s Francesco Acerbi has been widely reported in Italy.
There have been conflicting reports in Italy on whether Acerbi would be signing for the Premier League side, with claims Leicester have made an offer for the Italian defender.
Yesterday, the player was quoted as saying he’s concentrating on Sassuolo, but the aim is to sign for a bigger club.
It’s been reported Leicester are willing to pay around €10m for Acerbi, which would be a tempting offer for the 28-year-old, who has just another 18 months left on his contract.
However, Sassuolo’s president Giorgio Squinzi has confirmed to Italian website Tutto Mercato Web that Acerbi isn’t for sale, and is an important player for the Serie A club.
He said: “Leicester on Acerbi? I also heard of this possibility, but Francesco is a fundamental player for us. He is definitely at Sassuolo, there are no doubts about this. He’s not for sale.”
It looks more and more likely that Leicester’s name is being used to promote the player, which could lead to a contract renewal.
