Newcastle turn their attention to Senegal international at Howe’s request – ‘Closely interested’ in player

As things stand, Newcastle United are expected to be the main protagonists of the January transfer window.

The Magpies have been taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, who are expected to back the club in the coming months to turn their precarious Premier League situation around and avoid relegation.

Eddie Howe is the man charged with that particular task, and some reinforcements will come in, but the big questions are who and in what area of the pitch.

A new striker could go a long way, but their leaky defence has also been a problem, which is why a number of centre-backs have been linked, with the latest being Senegal international Abdou Diallo, currently at Paris Saint-Germain.

The news comes from Foot Mercato in France, who explain Howe has now ‘started to get to know his squad and wants his owners to strengthen the defence’, with the 25-year-old capable of playing both at left-back and in the heart of the backline.

Diallo ‘is among the targets studied by the Magpies’ and Newcastle are ‘closely interested’ in the Parisian, who might be reluctant to leave his current club.

Foot Mercato also ask the question as to whether the Premier League club ‘will have the means to convince him to join them’?

We all know money isn’t an issue for the Magpies, so it could all come down to the player.
