Nabil Fekir joined Real Betis from Lyon in 2019, a year after his failed transfer to Liverpool.
The Reds were keen on signing the midfielder in the summer of 2018 and even reportedly carried out his medical tests before the deal collapsed.
Various reasons were given at that time, including concerns over his knee, his agent making more demands and the Merseyside club trying to lower the fee after agreeing a deal with Lyon.
Just weeks after arriving in La Liga, the 28-year-old admitted he was disappointed after the transfer to Anfield collapsed. He also stressed an ‘incredible amount of lies’ were told over his failure to join Liverpool.
The France international is now enjoying life at Real Betis, where he has been a regular under the orders of Manuel Pellegrini. Fekir has granted interviews to Betis TV and Movistar+, and Estadio Deportivo have relayed his comments.
On his ‘almost closed’ move to Liverpool in 2018, the player said: “Everything was closed. I passed all the interviews, I spoke with Jürgen Klopp, he told me that he loved me, we all did it and, when we were about to sign, there were problems with my representative and the negotiation broke down.
“They said it was because I had knee problems, but the truth has been proven over time. My knee is super good.”
Fekir is now in a bright period of his career, and continuing to impress with Real Betis in la Liga.
