It comes courtesy of Calciomercato.it, who explain that while the two clubs did find an agreement on the final price of the operation, ‘the terms of the payment’ have remained the stumbling block.
Fabio Paratici knows that he needs to pay €20m for the Japanese defender, and with five days left in the transfer market and no deal in place, the chances of Spurs signing Tomiyasu are ‘therefore reduced’.
That being said, there is some time left, so the website refuse to rule out a deal completely, but it’s certainly something the Tottenham director of football needs to work on.
Gazzetta dello Sport are a bit more optimistic, however, explaining Tottenham ‘are still in pole position’, followed by Leicester City and West Ham.
Their view is the fee is fixed at €23-25m, and the player seems keen for a move to the Premier League, seeing the English championship as the ‘finish line’.
