Lyon have been working on a deal to sign Xherdan Shaqiri for several weeks, with it being stated at the outset in France that finances would make the transfer difficult.
That related to both the fee Liverpool were asking for, and the wages the Swiss international earns with the Reds. There was hope in Lyon that as the transfer window grew older, the Premier League club would be more flexible when it came to their demands.
Lyon announced on Sunday evening that they’d agreed a deal to sign Shaqiri, and claims from England put the transfer fee at €11m.
L’Equipe are insistent that’s not the case, and say Lyon will only be paying €6m initially, so just over half of what has been reported in England. Liverpool can earn more if certain bonus targets are met, although what those are hasn’t been explained.
Shaqiri is expected to have a medical on Monday and complete his move to the Ligue 1 side.
