Tottenham are ‘on the hunt’ for Granada defender Domingos Duarte, with Nuno Espirito Santo pushing for his signature.
That’s according to IDEAL, local to Granada, who say that Spurs will present an initial offer of €10m for the defender, despite him having a €30m release clause in his contract.
We covered a report earlier today that stated Espirito Santo had ‘demanded’ the club sign Duarte to further bolster his defensive options.
IDEAL now back that up, reporting Tottenham’s interest in the defender and saying it comes via their coach who ‘knows the young international well’.
The ball, though, is very much in Granada’s court. Duarte has been a key player at the club since his arrival, and they are naturally not keen to lose him.
They’re protected by the fact he has a contract until 2023, and that includes a €30m release clause, a fee they are likely to stick to as a result.
At the minute, it’s believed that Tottenham will launch an initial offer for around a third of that at €10m.
So far, they’ve only sounded out the player about a potential move and it remains to be seen if they will make a ‘clear and swift approach’ after that.
Any negotiation will have to take into account the fact that Duarte’s former club retain a 25% option on any future transfers.
That is something which will reduce what Granada can earn in any deal, another factor which is likely to make them stick to his €30m release clause as much as possible.
