West Ham edging forwards to sign Nikola Milenkovic has been heavily covered around the Italian sport media over the past couple of days.
The defender has less than a year left on his contract with Fiorentina, and that puts the Serie A side under some pressure. He doesn’t want to renew, which makes it clear he fancies a new adventure elsewhere, and therefore La Viola either need to sell or risk losing their player on a free transfer.
Tuttosport reports that Juventus have been interested, and that Milenkovic is ‘much more than a temptation’ for the Turin club. However, competition from elsewhere would be a barrier in their way.
Sevilla and ‘especially West Ham’ are keen on the Serbian, and it’s stated the Hammers ‘have raised their pressure and offer’ to try and get a deal done. Juventus’ best hope would be a move to the Premier League stalling, allowing them to try for Milenkovic as the end of the window approaches.
Presumably, the thinking is that a deal would be cheaper if there’s no English club in the picture and Fiorentina are under increased pressure to agree a quick move.
