Following reports from Portuguese TV on Wednesday evening claiming that Nuno Espírito Santo ‘should indeed be’ the next Everton manager, we admit we expected further reports from local newspapers today.
However, there’s not a lot regarding the Toffees’ chase for the former Wolves boss, with most outlets only taking claims from the English media, with O Jogo pointing out that even though Crystal Palace are also interested in the coach, the Goodison Park side have an advantage due to ‘their dimension’.
Now it turns out there’s another Portuguese manager who had been linked to Everton, and that’s Sérgio Conceição.
Newspaper Record has something to say about him.
It’s first claimed that the coach had a meeting with his club Porto and is eager to renew his contract for two more years.
That means his agent Jorge Mendes has stopped working on ‘market possibilities’ for him.
Record takes that information as a sign that the stories about a move somewhere else were never true.
So even though Conceição had been linked to Everton and Fenerbahce, these were ‘no more than rumours’.
The newspaper point out that the links to the Toffees and the Turkish side had been out in the European media just yesterday, and they make it clear that with Mendes ‘out of action’, those moves were never happening.
