A couple of days ago, The Mirror‘s Darren Lewis reported Daniel Sturridge is set to leave Liverpool after accepting he isn’t in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.
While The Mirror reported West Ham and Stoke City are keen on the English star, Calciomercatoweb have put out an exclusive confirming AC Milan’s interest in the 27-year-old.
Calciomercatoweb say AC Milan are keen on signing Sturridge in January, after Klopp has given his approval to the sale.
It’s reported Sturridge is expected to cost AC Milan around €30m, but the Serie A club must offload Carlos Bacca first to fund a move for the Liverpool star. While the idea sounds good, it’s very unlikely Liverpool would even consider a sale in January.
Klopp stressed the need to sign an attacker in January, after the injury to Danny Ings, and it wouldn’t make sense to offload Sturridge unless someone else came in.
Sadio Mane is expected to leave for the African Cup of Nations, and Sturridge is likely to fill in for him in the busy period.
Back to Milan, selling Bacca and then buying Sturridge for around the same fee makes no sense either. Bacca may be three years older at 30, but he’s got a proven record of scoring in Serie A, and hasn’t had the sort of injury issues which have caused Sturridge problems.
