Everton’s offer for Atlético Madrid defender Santiago Arias is “the best for him and Atlético”, according to Spanish journalist David Sánchez.
The Blues are known to be on the hunt for a right-back this summer, with them keen to add serious competition for captain Seamus Coleman.
They currently have Jonjoe Kenny in their squad after he returned from a successful loan spell at Schalke, but doubts remain about whether he is good enough to be the back up they need.
Thus, Everton have been linked with several right-backs around Europe, including Arias, who was a target last summer courtesy of his relationship with Marcel Brands.
The Dutchman signed Arias during his time at PSV Eindhoven, so the Colombian is a player he knows well, which is why it was no surprise when the reports resurfaced over the last week.
Those claims stated the Blues were in ‘advanced negotiations’ with Atlético over a move and while Sánchez does not back that up, he does suggest Everton are at the front of the queue in the race for the player.
“Simeone would be in favour of him remaining in the team, but offers continue to arrive for the Colombian, especially from England, very good, both for the club and for the player,” he told Gol Caracol.
“There, they would improve the annual file. Simeone has to rule out one of the full-backs for next season
“Sportingly, Arias is the second option after the Englishman (Trippier), but the good line-up and market that he has can promote his sale.
“There are several offers for him, but the English seems to be the best, especially for Atlético Madrid.”
