Estudiantes’ attempt to keep Marcos Rojo in their squad is probably becoming the biggest saga in Argentine football this year.

The defender’s loan from Manchester United expired at the end of June, and the La Plata side are struggling to find a new deal with the Red Devils.

The reports from England saying Rojo is on Manchester United’s list of players for sale created a big fuss in the Argentine press, especially the claims which said the club will demand €20m for the transfer.

Newspaper Olé writes about it, reporting there’s no club in Argentina that could pay such an amount for the 30-year-old.

But Estudiantes haven’t lost their hope yet. They insist on getting a new loan from Manchester United, and that’s why Marcos Rojo’s agent is in constant contact with the Red Devils trying to sort the situation out. Especially because it’s the player’s wish to stay at the Argentine side.

Even though this has been a long saga, we’re still to see reports from the South American media naming any other European clubs who are interested in Rojo. So perhaps the Red Devils won’t have many options when it comes to offloading the defender.
