Greek newspaper Live Sport report, via Sdna, that Celtic have returned for AEK’s goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas, but there are other clubs who are chasing his signature.
Barkas has been linked with a move to the Scottish Premiership side in recent months, and previous reports from Greece said Montpellier and Basel are also interested in signing him.
Celtic’s current goalkeeper Fraser Forster is due to return to Southampton, and his backup Craig Gordon is approaching the end of his contract, meaning the Glasgow club may need to sign a new goalkeeper for next season.
Live Sport doesn’t name the club which is battling with Celtic, but they do say this team is based in a ‘better competition’ that the Scottish Premiership.
Barkas has been a key player for the Athens side for the past few years, and recent reports suggested Celtic sporting director Nick Hammond is a big fan of the player after watching him since the start of last season.
He’s made 27 appearances for AEK in all competitions this season, and is under contract with the club until June 2022.
