Arsenal have moved with a ‘certain conviction’ for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot this summer, but a deal may be complicated given the finances involved.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who report that the midfielder could be leaving the Serie A side after just a year at the club.
The Frenchman joined Juve on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain last summer in a deal that was considered something of a market coup.
However, he has struggled to impress in his first season, with TMW explaining sources at the club label him as a ‘mysterious object’.
Indeed, there have been questions and about his ‘attitude’ and ‘desire’, which many at Juve feel are not always as high as they should be.
Arsenal are among them, and it’s claimed they are the first team to move with a ‘certain conviction’ but the problem, as has been mentioned elsewhere, is the finances of it.
First, there is Rabiot’s huge wage packet. He currently earns €7m a year plus bonuses, which mean he costs Juventus around €11m a season.
Judging from the past, Rabiot would ‘hardly accept’ wage reductions, meaning any interested party would have to be offering a big pay package to lure him away.
Then there is Juve’s demands. If they are to sell Rabiot this summer, they want to make a big profit and want ‘at least’ €30m if they are to sanction his sale.
Thus, anyone interested in doing a deal is looking at an investment of at least €60-70m all in, a high price to pay for any club given finances across Europe have been decimated by the Coronavirus outbreak.
That’s certainly the case for Arsenal, who had a relatively low budget to begin with, and may have to abandon this potential pursuit before it’s even started.
