As things stand, the future of Toulouse’s wonderkid goalkeeper Alban Lafont is very clear: he has a contract until 2020, and the Ligue 1 club want him to stay.
According to L’Equipe on Wednesday, the Ligue 1 side and the player’s representatives have been in talks for a few weeks now, but no agreement has been found.
The French newspaper report the new contract won’t be an extension, just an improved offer on what the player is currently earning, and Toulouse are set to come back with a new offer soon.
Unfortunately for them, if you have a starlet at your club who is starting in a very important position aged 17, that attracts attention, and Arsenal’s scouting has been already widely covered.
Joining Arsène Wenger’s side are also Porto and Juventus, yet it’s Watford who have apparently also made a ‘concrete manfiestation’ about their interest.
The Hornets, who currently have Heurelho Gomes in goal, certainly have a lot of competition for the youngster, who has impressed greatly since being thrown in at the deep end halfway through last season.
Our bet? He’ll renew, and continue his development at the French club where he will play week in, week out.
It’s the most logical option, really.
